Book 10 Chapter 5 of Tom Jones.

This is part of an ongoing project in which I will record and post one chapter per week of Henry Fielding's Tom Jones over the course of four years.

In this chapter, we find out the secret identities of the young woman at the inn and her chambermaid. It's none other than our heroine, Sophia Western and her maid Honour! Not only that, but Partridge runs his mouth again and reveals that Tom Jones doesn't have time to see Sophia because he's sleeping with another woman! Sophia bribes Susan, the servant girl at the inn, who confirms all. Finally, before leaving the inn, Sophia leaves her muff in Tom's empty bed. Yes, the same muff I wrote about a year ago, back in book 5! I'm also glad to see that a quick Google of "Tom Jones muff joke" has my explanation in second place! With any luck, we can get it up to number one!
