Book 15 Chapter 4 of Tom Jones.

This is part of an ongoing project in which I will record and post one chapter per week of Henry Fielding's Tom Jones over the course of four years.

So, a somewhat troubling aspect of early novels is that they all involve rape, or the threat of rape, as a plot point. Tom Jones is no exception to the rule. In this chapter, Lady Bellaston convinces Lord Fellamar to rape Sophia, and that it would be for Sophia's own good, since she likes him, and would then have to marry him. Lord Fellamar resists, but ultimately succumbs to Lady Bellaston's manipulation.
