Book 16 Chapter 2 of Tom Jones.

This is part of an ongoing project in which I will record and post one chapter per week of Henry Fielding's Tom Jones over the course of four years.

In this chapter, Squire Western is visited by an officer, a representative of Lord Fellamar, who has taken offense to Western's treatment in the previous book. The officer then strikes Western, which sends Western into a rage and then chases him off with threats of a beating.

Western then tries to reason Sophia into consenting to marry Blifil, which goes about as you would expect, and he reacts about as you'd expect.
