Book 13 Chapter 5 of Tom Jones.

This is part of an ongoing project in which I will record and post one chapter per week of Henry Fielding's Tom Jones over the course of four years.

In this chapter, Tom gets turned away from seeing Mrs. Fitzpatrick ever again. When he returns to the house at which he's staying, he finds another lodger, a young man named Nightingale being assaulted by his footman. He rescues Nightingale and they become fast friends. Also, please note the term vertù used in this chapter means knowledge and appreciation of the fine arts.
